Video Playback Issues

We originally sent out an email about this back on May 7, but wanted to send out a reminder since some clients are still experiencing this issue.

Google released a newer version of Chrome (v66) that disabled "auto-play" for videos by default. This setting will need to be changed in order to support playback of your uploaded video files and youtube videos.

If you are experiencing video playback issues and you have not corrected this setting, you will need to do so in order to fix this issue. Please refer to instructions for the appropriate device below:

 

 

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CHROMEBOX DEVICES

 

1. For Chromeboxes that are in kiosk mode, restart the device and press Ctrl-Alt-S during startup, and login.

2. Check the version of Chrome:
     - Open the Chrome Browser

     - Browse to: chrome://settings/

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

     - Click the menu icon in the upper-left corner (3 horizontal lines)

     - Select "About Chrome"

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

3. If the version is 66 or higher, skip to step 6.

4. Update Chrome to the latest version.
5. Restart the device, press Ctrl-Alt-S during startup and login again, then open Chrome once more.

6. Update the Autoplay Policy:

     - Browse to: chrome://flags/#autoplay-policy

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

      - Locate the setting called "Autoplay Policy"
      - Change the setting to "No user gesture is required."

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

7. Select blue button that reads "restart now"
8. Restart the device (without logging in via the Ctrl-Alt-S shortcut).

9. The issue should now be resolved.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PC or MAC DEVICES

 

1. For Windows devices that are running the Chrome extension, press the Escape key and close the Hypersign application.

2. Check the version of Chrome:
     - Open the Chrome Browser

     - Browse to: chrome://settings/

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

     - Click the menu icon in the upper-left corner (3 horizontal lines)

     - Select "About Chrome"

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

3. If the version is 66 or higher, skip to step 6.

5. Restart the chrome application.
